As a critical member of our mental health support services, you will play a vital role in providing essential counseling services not only to community members but also to individuals in crisis situations, including those who may have been recently arrested. This role is designed for professionals who thrive in a challenging environment and are committed to enhancing the quality of mental health care within our community.

About the Organization

Empathy Medical Healthcare, LLC is a forward-thinking organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and providing high-quality community health services. Located in Costa Mesa, California, we serve a diverse population through our community health clinic, striving to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. Our team is composed of professionals who are passionate about mental health and are committed to fostering a supportive environment for both clients and colleagues.

Work Environment

This position is primarily remote, providing flexibility and work-life balance. However, collaboration with local law enforcement and other mental health professionals is essential, which may involve occasional in-person meetings or on-site responses during critical incidents. Our community-focused approach ensures that you will work closely with the police department, crisis stabilization units, and mental health facilities to create comprehensive care plans that address immediate needs and support long-term recovery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely mental health counseling to individuals experiencing crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques and developing appropriate action plans.
  • Accompany law enforcement personnel during mental health responses, ensuring that those in crisis receive appropriate intervention and support.
  • Train police staff on effective strategies to manage mental health episodes involving arrestees, aimed at reducing the necessity of force and promoting understanding.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations in the field, helping law enforcement determine the need for involuntary detention under sections 5150/5585.
  • Deliver short-term crisis counseling to non-violent patients, employing a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual's situation.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of patient interactions, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, crisis stabilization staff, hospital personnel, and psychiatrists to coordinate care for patients, including logistics like transportation to mental health facilities and locating available beds in shelters.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work will directly impact a vulnerable patient population that includes individuals facing mental health crises, arrestees undergoing evaluation for mental health issues, and community members who may require immediate intervention. You will be instrumental in providing compassionate care and support, furthering Empathy Medical Healthcare's mission of fostering recovery and resilience.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, with a focus on mental health or counseling preferred.
  • Current LPCC license in the state of California is mandatory.
  • Proficient multitasking abilities and the capability to prioritize urgent cases effectively.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals.
  • Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and calmness under pressure are crucial attributes in this role.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous clinical experience in psychiatric settings is strongly preferred, enabling familiarity with various mental health conditions and treatment approaches.
  • Experience working alongside law enforcement agencies or in crisis intervention roles will be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and participating in relevant training courses.
Compensation and Benefits

This full-time remote position offers a competitive salary ranging from $52,000 to $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, and vision), retirement plans, an employee assistance program specifically for mental health support, and opportunities for professional development. You will also maintain a full caseload, ensuring meaningful work experiences and job satisfaction.
