Reports to: Core Production Supervisor

Location: Irvine, CA

Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM and 11:00 PM

Salary Starting: $21.25; you are eligible for a shift residential amount and a quarterly bonus amount.

SUMMARY

The Production Tooling Technician must have knowledge of the Core Production department; will be responsible for the assigned tasks in the production tooling area, including but not limited to: cleaning/polishing, tooling inspection, machine set-up and tear down tooling in production on the job site and will be responsible for layout and fabrication of all tooling of Core production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Position is responsible for safety inspections, procedures and regulations, scheduled maintenance, perform equipment change-over (tear down and set-up).
• Ensure strict adherence to corporate values in complying with all company environmental, safety and other laws and regulations.
• Responsible to help coordinate the daily and outage related work required to support and maintain unit availability understand the process of checking, re-checking and checking again of the tooling inspection reports for compliance reliability.
• Knowledge of all pultrusion tooling and calibration of same
• Have good communication, numeric aptitude, attention to detail skills.
• Troubleshoot tooling equipment, document any discrepancies and write work order.
• Knowledge of all Tooling area documents and paperwork including core production set-up sheets, testing request forms, and work orders.
• Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use,
• Monitoring and documentation after cleaning, inspecting Dies, Carbon bushing, and other tooling etc. Make sure to notify a qualified individual of any discrepancies of tooling.
• Observation and attentiveness to machine and all tooling in order to detect and prevent possible malfunctions. Responsible for recognizing and alerting supervisors of anything unusual.
• Effectively execute shift change by the preparing and cleaning all tooling, equipment and supplies to minimize down time. Inform the incoming shift of any special instructions or changes.
• Read and interpret gauges, record measurements and document all information accurately.
• Follow operating and maintenance instructions for tools/machinery, and utilize relevant manuals for adherence to standard operating procedures.
• Maintain a safe work environment, thoroughly understand the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the proper handling of materials.
• Follow operating and maintenance instructions for tools and machinery and utilize relevant manuals for proper operating procedures.
• Responsible for operation and maintenance of Calibration for Air gage (Western Gage Co) and Bore Scope
• Maintain inspection reports to track wear/usage of pultrusion dies and determine end of life of composite tooling.
• Maintain, clean, refurbish and in some cases, fabricate over 5,000 individual pieces in Tooling department
• Instrumental in weekly/biweekly machine setups for production
• Video characterize and capture visual defects in Pultrusion dies up to a 48" cavity
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools to achieve tight tolerances and machined finishes crucial to composite lay up

Qualifications

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Mechanical aptitude, use of hand and power tools, general machine shop principles.
• English Language Skills - Ability to speak, read and interpret documents and blueprints, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and use hands to finger, handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb and or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift to 50 pounds.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to start and stop pultrusion tooling production equipment, operate powered industrial equipment, operate software for tracking preventive maintenance.

• Ability to read and interpret gauges and record measurements.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), operating and maintenance instructions, and any relevant manuals.
• Ability to stand for an 8-10, with an occasional 12-hour shift.
• Use of hands and arms to lift, handle, clean, install, and position materials and tools/machinery, and to otherwise manipulate things.
