Assistant Controller is a manager-level position responsible for assisting the Controller in directing the Company's accounting and finance functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining the Company's accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives, as well as preparing and analyzing financial reports and presenting findings and recommendations to top management. In performing the duties of an Assistant Controller, an employee must demonstrate expertise in various business concepts, practices, and procedures.
Assist the Controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
Prepare and/or review journal entries, complex account reconciliations, and reporting schedules
Support the Controller in the preparation, review and timely issuance of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Contribute to improvements in close timelines and reporting efficiency
Monitor, communicate and resolve open accounting issues and all accounting-related operational issues
Review preparation of quarterly and annual sales/use tax returns
Assist with preparation for external and internal audits; coordinate supporting schedules and documentation
Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, corporate and internal policies and internal controls
Identify opportunities to leverage data analytics and technology to improve decision-making and operational efficiency
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff by setting goals, managing performance and providing ongoing training and support
Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information
Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university
6+ years' progressive accounting experience
Prior supervisory experience with ability to manage, mentor, and support accounting staff
Strong understanding of U.S GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Active or inactive CPA preferred, but not required
Experience in construction accounting is preferred but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge and experience with corporate ERP/accounting systems and COINS software familiarity are a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Excel (advanced level)
Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
Compensation Range: $135,000 - $160,000 per year
