Finance Operations Manager

Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer in the Department of Medicine, Finance Operations Manager is responsible for the daily operations for the central Finance Office in the Department of Medicine including serving as controller for Department accounting functions, including cash management, account set up and reporting, purchasing and pal card functions. Serve as account reviewer for transactions. Responsible for management of payroll functions including annual renewal process, audit process, staff physician renewal, and FWA system. Serves as a resource to department staff for payroll issues. The incumbent develops and recommends changes to departmental policies, and procedures for processing of financial and payroll transactions. Train new staff on department, school and University policies and procedures for purchasing, travel, entertainment and payroll processing.

Required:

  • Three years of experience in the operations of a payroll and/or accounting unit.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Understands the concepts of financial and resource planning as well as how to control organizational budgeting.
  • Ability to orient new employees, distribute work, and monitor the progress of work.
  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems, budgeting and reporting techniques, accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Strong skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with changing priorities and direct the work of others accordingly.
  • Ability to multi-task. Ability to screen applications, interview candidates, and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hire.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and planning.
  • Knowledge of UC Path System Knowledge of KFS
