The Facility
VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS) is one of the most diversified health care systems in VA, and it includes Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center located in Long Beach, California, and five Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Anaheim, Laguna Hills, Santa Ana, Santa Fe Springs, and Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach.
VLBHS provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and extended care programs. It employs more than 2,200 full-time employees and is the health care provider of choice for more than 50,000 Veterans. Urgent Care/ ER Department care for approximately 30,000 patients per year. The ER Department consists of nine (9) beds and emergency care services are provided on a 24-hour basis for adults, adolescent children and infants. The Urgent Care Department operates from 8 am - 8 pm, Monday through Sunday including Holidays. The Urgent Care Department consists of six (6) beds and is staffed by mid-level providers (Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners) who see patients that present for acute care and who have been triaged as lower acuity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Scope of Care: Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants (as appropriate and within scope of practice/privileging) shall be responsible for providing Emergency Department care, including, but not limited to:
Evaluation, Emergent Treatment and Management : Employment of the principles of emergency care for life/limb threats, resuscitation and stabilization, triage, diagnosis and disposition.
