Direct Support Professional-Whittier

Assist adults with physical and developmental disabilities in their daily lives. Assist with complete care of dietary, hygiene, bathing, grooming and dressing needs, including assisting with restroom and other activities of daily living (ADL's).

Essential functions include:

  • Pick up/drop off individual's from/to their home/facility (if necessary) using personal vehicle. Facilitate their departure and arrival for work or daily community integration activities.
  • Outline, teach and prepare daily routine(s) for clients' (visual and active) as written in Individual Program Plan. Life skills such as mobility training, work and community.
  • Support the needs and goals of each consumer by participating in the development of IPP/ISP goals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the clients.
  • Support the needs and goals of each resident by taking them to visit family and friends, to preferred leisure/recreation activities, and encouraging them to socialize among peers.
  • Assist clients with personal care such as grooming, bathroom needs, changing clients' undergarments and/or clothing if needed.
  • Prepare daily meals and assist with clean-up.
  • Report any incidents or problems and communicate daily with administrators.
  • Perform other duties assigned

Education and experience:

  • Minimum education: high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum experience: 3+ years of professional or personal experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities (e.g. autism) or mental illnesses (e.g. bipolar) with challenging behaviors strongly preferred.
  • Minimum driving experience: must have a valid in-state driver's license, be over 21, provide current registration and insurance, and have a driving record with no more than 2 points within the last 3 years.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) (preferred or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of hire).
  • Must have first aid / CPR.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, and kneeling.
  • Able to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
