City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students succeed academically and socially. Our team of passionate AmeriCorps members plays a crucial role in fostering educational achievement, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive.

What You Will Do

As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your primary focus will be on coaching and mentoring students at various academic levels. You'll be instrumental in assisting them with their academic progress, attendance improvement, and the development of positive behaviors in school.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Providing personalized academic support to students through one-on-one and small group interactions.
  • Developing literacy and math skills by customizing learning activities according to student needs and offering encouragement for assignment completion.
  • Establishing and implementing effective behavior management strategies.
  • Fostering interpersonal skills in students using proven learning techniques like practice and reflection.
  • Collaborating with teachers to monitor and analyze student progress through data collection and assessments.
  • Contributing to the creation of a safe, engaging classroom environment alongside teaching staff.
  • Supporting Whole School initiatives designed to enhance student and family engagement.
  • Co-leading and participating in extended programming, including after-school and virtual activities focused on academic enrichment, recreation, and leadership development.
  • Helping to organize events celebrating student achievements in literacy, attendance, and behavior.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Aged 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
  • Have a GED, high school diploma, or some college experience.
  • Cannot have served more than three terms in AmeriCorps.
  • Agreement to complete a background check.
  • Available to start in July/August 2025 (exact dates vary by location).
