Role and Responsibilities:

1st Pressman's responsibilities include preparing the press for printing, monitoring the process while it is in operation and checking the final printed product for quality. He is also responsible for his press crew and all maintenance including roller adjustment or roller replacement and troubleshooting.

Equipment :

  • Man Roland Evolution 7/C UV offset printing press.
  • Man Roland HiPrint 7 color conventional offset printing press.
Tasks performed:
  • Prepare the Press for printing which consists of the following.
    • Read our job tickets to identify specifics of the job.
    • Enter job presets into Press.
    • Set Up PressSign
    • Hang Printing Plates
    • Decide color rotations.
    • Hang Coating Blanket
    • Load Paper if needed.
  • During Make Ready the following are required.
    • Set-up closed loop measuring system.
    • Adjust Color and Register.
    • Read report from PressSign, analize dot gain, curves & Ink density.
    • Check Copy.
    • Match what is called out for color (Proof, Drawdowns, Etc.).
    • Have basic Knowledge of LAB and Delta E.
  • During Press Run the following is required.
    • Keep color consistent throughout the run.
    • Analize PressSign at least 1 time every 1L to 2K for dot gain, curves and Ink density.
    • Make decision on what is acceptable or unacceptable.
    • Problem Solving if needed during job.
    • Delegate to Crew.
    • Report Quality Issues.
    • Work toward faster speeds.
    • When the job is complete verify counts and fill out proper logs if required.
  • Maintenance requirements.
    • Set Rollers/Change Rollers if needed.
    • Greasing Press.
    • Perform preventive maintenance.
    • Identify and Troubleshoot Press issues.
  • Other tasks:
    • Maintain housekeeping standards.
    • Support continuous run.
    • Run press when operator is out.
    • Achieve targeted performance standards on make-ready, run, non-chargeable times and waste.
    • Provide daily feedback to supervision regarding all aspects of shift activities.
    • Complete forms, logs, and records as required.
    • Adhere to all safety rules.
    • Follow direction of Shift Supervisor
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Education:
    • High school diploma
    • College education is preferred
    • 3-5+ years in industry specific experience
  • Skills & Qualifications:
    • Proficient in math, writing and computer skills.
    • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills.
    • Capable of effectively managing a production crew.
    • Must be detail oriented and possess a working knowledge of industry specific information.
    • Must be mechanically inclined
    • Must be able to read measurements (tape, rule, caliper)
  • Physical Demands:
    • Job function requires lifting to a maximum of 50 pounds with intermittent stooping and bending.
    • Job function requires the ability to work in a standing position continuously.
