JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the operation's leadership, the Event Services Attendant is responsible for providing superior guest service at various event locations including The Pyramid and Blair Field. Tasks will be performed in a quick and efficient manner, such as greeting customers, collecting payment, preparing and assembling food and beverage orders. Safeguards company, customer, and campus assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepares and serves food and drinks, keeps work stations clean and stocked.
- Greets customers, takes their order, collects payment, and makes change.
- Demonstrates superior knowledge of menu items, allergen information, and offerings.
- Assists with set-up and clean-up before and after events; including transporting product and catering orders to various on-campus and off-campus locations by use of company vehicles and carts.
- Collaborates with fellow servers, bartenders, and other staff members to provide seamless service.
- Ensures a warm and friendly atmosphere for guests, creating a positive event experience.
- Address any issues or concerns raised by guests, aiming to resolve them to their satisfaction and escalating concerns to immediate supervisor as needed.
- Cross-trains to work various types of events in all areas of the operation.
- Follows alcohol serving guidelines as described by the California alcohol beverage control and campus regulations where alcohol is served.
- Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of concessions & event areas. Tasks may include bussing and cleaning tables, beverage stations, emptying trash, resetting vacant tables, maintaining napkin dispensers and condiment stations, operating dishwasher, and mopping.

Work Schedule This position requires a flexible schedule to support events at various event locations. Shifts are primarily evenings and weekends, with occasional daytime hours based on event needs. Employees must provide a minimum of 20 hours of availability per week; however, work is event-driven, and there may be weeks with little or no scheduled hours when no events are taking place. Additional hours may be scheduled during peak event periods.
Physical Demands The employee must frequently be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility throughout the entire shift. The employee must frequently be able to use manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination (for use of food service equipment). The employee must frequently be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds and frequently use upper body strength required for mixing and carrying pots and pans. There will be long periods of time standing on their feet and moving around and the employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, bend at the waist, push or pull, reach above shoulder level, stoop, and kneel. The employee must comply with the University's rules and regulations as well as the Beach Shops.
Work Environment The employee is regularly in a traditional dining services and kitchen environment that is frequently busy, has tight work-space, and extreme temperatures ranging from climate-controlled in the dining room, to humid/hot climate in the kitchen area. Cold temperatures are exposed in refrigeration area. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee is regularly susceptible to oven, grill, knives, and other cutlery utensils. Works with chemicals used in cleaning and sanitizing equipment and all kitchen areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and/or experience The employee must be 21 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or high school equivalent.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Employees are required to hold a valid California Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record, as determined by Beach Shops. Completion of the Beach Shops Driver Safety Program is required within 30 days of hire. Additionally, employees must have a California Food Handler Card and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification, or the ability to obtain both within the first 30 days of employment.
Knowledge and Abilities Employees must demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Strong verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service are essential. Employees must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety procedures, and effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
