JOB SUMMARY

Use composite materials and their application techniques per internal and customer specifications and drawings in order to create or reinforce production parts.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

Responsible for all aspects of preparing for, assembling, bagging, and de-tooling lay-up parts, including the following:

  • Read basic work instructions, drawings and diagrams in English
  • Document details of work performed as required on work orders/travelers, including monitoring and recording material shelf life/out life, lot number and quantity used
  • Knowledge of basic shop math skills
  • Adherence to quality and ship standards for the aerospace industry
  • Complete high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a clean working environment in order to consistently produce aerospace-quality parts
  • Follow company policies to ensure the safety of oneself and others
  • Weigh and mix resins/epoxies as specified
  • Cut and trim kits of uncured composite materials, such as pre-impregnated or dry textiles, using scissors or knives
  • Prepare parts for lay-up by abrading and solvent cleaning as required
  • Prepare caul sheets or tools for lay-up by cleaning and releasing as required.
  • Assemble lay-up parts per drawing and specification requirements, using hands, squeegees, and heat guns to avoid trapping air, bridging laminates, etc.
  • Utilize various bagging techniques to assemble the bagging material, ensuring materials are darted, pleated, etc. to prevent bridging, wrinkling, and other defects in parts
  • Perform vacuum leak checks on bagged parts prior to cure and resolve leaks as required.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Education, Knowledge, and Experience

Education:
  • A High School Diploma is desired.
  • Trade or Technical School is desired.
Experience:
  • Position may be filled with both entry level and experience candidates.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of basic shop math skills
  • Read basic work instructions, drawings and diagrams in English

  • Direction is provided in terms of tasks and craftsmanship. Work is reviewed upon completion on how well tasks have been completed. Will autonomously work on routine tasks with frequent status updates with supervisor. Will be provided with additional guidance on more complex or non-routine tasks.
