Sr. Accountant

Description:

First Responder Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting, efficient revenue accruals, and payment reconciliation, while collaborating with department managers on cost control initiatives. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for generating statistical reports related to admissions and outpatient visits, supporting decision-making processes, and driving operational efficiency. In addition, the Senior Accountant will oversee fixed asset accounting and play a key role in month-end and year-end closing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. General Accounting & Compliance:

  • Maintain and update accounting records and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Stay current on relevant accounting standards and regulations impacting the healthcare industry.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are processed and documented in accordance with established policies and procedures.
2. Month-End & Year-End Closing:
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing process by ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other necessary reports.
3. Revenue Accruals & Payment Reconciliation:
  • Oversee and manage the monthly revenue accrual process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Review, reconcile, and process payments from insurance companies, government agencies, and private pay sources.
  • Work closely with the billing department to ensure that all patient services are accurately captured, and revenue is recognized appropriately.
  • Investigate discrepancies in payments, perform adjustments, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
4. Fixed Asset Accounting:
  • Manage and track the company's fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Ensure that all fixed asset transactions are properly recorded in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Reconcile the fixed asset register with the general ledger on a regular basis.
  • Work with relevant departments to monitor asset utilization and ensure proper documentation of all asset-related expenditures.
5. Statistical Reporting & Financial Analysis:
  • Generate detailed statistical reports for admissions and outpatient visits, analyzing trends and performance metrics.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports that assess the financial impact of patient visits, occupancy rates, and treatment types.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to present financial insights related to patient volume, revenue generation, and operational efficiency.
6. Cost Control & Collaboration with Department Managers:
  • Collaborate with department managers to monitor and control operational costs, ensuring expenses remain within budgetary guidelines.
  • Review and analyze departmental financial statements, identify cost-saving opportunities, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide guidance and support to department managers in understanding financial performance and implementing cost-efficient strategies.
  • Participate in cost control initiatives and track the impact of any changes in treatment protocols or operational practices.
7. Other Tasks as Assigned:
  • Perform additional accounting tasks as required to support the finance department and organizational objectives.
  • Assist with special projects and accounting reporting as directed by leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior accountant or similar role, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health treatment setting.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition, payment reconciliation, and accrual accounting.
  • Experience in financial reporting, statistical analysis, and budgeting/forecasting.
  • Experience in fixed asset accounting, including asset tracking and depreciation.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite accounting software is required.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
