Eleven Recruiting is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join one of our largest aerospace manufacturing clients located in Huntington Beach, CA. This high-impact role will oversee payroll operations across multiple manufacturing sites, managing complex, high-volume hourly payroll processes while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in a fast-paced production environment.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in ADP WorkForce Now (WFN), multi-state payroll compliance, and a proven track record of supporting payroll within manufacturing or engineering environments.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Operations & Oversight
- Manage accurate and timely processing of weekly, biweekly, and monthly payrolls for a complex hourly workforce across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Supervise a team of 3–4 payroll administrators, ensuring adherence to company policies and labor regulations.
- Review payroll batches and transmit files through ADP WorkForce Now (WFN); troubleshoot discrepancies and ensure payroll integrity.
- Oversee all payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and rate adjustments.
- Administer shift differentials, overtime, incentive bonuses, and other manufacturing-specific pay structures.
- Partner with HR and Operations to ensure accurate timekeeping data is captured and integrated into payroll.
- Resolve complex timecard exceptions related to missed punches, labor transfers, and schedule variations common in manufacturing settings.
- Support testing and implementation of system upgrades, new interfaces, and payroll-related automation.
Manufacturing & Labor Cost Alignment
- Partner with plant managers and operations leaders to reconcile payroll data with labor costing, cost centers, and job codes.
- Support production reporting needs by providing analytics on overtime, absenteeism, and labor utilization.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and company policies.
- Lead internal and external audits, including SOX and year-end reporting, providing full audit trails and payroll documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and SUI rates; work with the payroll tax accountant to resolve variances.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary liaison between HR, Finance, and IT to support payroll-related initiatives and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate Workers' Compensation and multi-state worksite reporting.
- Provide professional, timely payroll support and customer service to internal teams and leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, HR, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience managing high-volume, multi-state payroll in a manufacturing or complex hourly environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing payroll staff.
- Strong proficiency in ADP WorkForce Now (WFN) is required.
- Experience managing complex timekeeping and pay structures, including overtime, shift differentials, and bonus payouts.
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local labor/payroll laws, including overtime and payroll tax compliance.
- CPP certification is a nice plus.
- Strong analytical and Excel skills; capable of producing detailed labor and payroll reports.
