Join the City of Newport Beach Community Development Department!

We are currently seeking one full-time Building Inspector II to perform building inspections at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair. The role involves maintaining inspection records and providing assistance to the public.

Selection Process:

  1. Application Evaluation: Applications are accepted continuously, with the first review on May 19, 2025 or after 150 applications, whichever occurs first. Candidates must attach a resume to be considered complete. The most qualified will be invited for a virtual interview.
  2. Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for June 10, 2025. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list for future vacancies.

Work Schedule:

This position follows a 9/80 schedule.

Opportunities for advancement include Senior Building Inspector and Principal Building Inspector.

Benefits:

The City offers an excellent benefits package and membership in CalPERS. The retirement formula depends on appointment date and membership status, with a required contribution of 11.5% of pay.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Two years of responsible residential building inspection experience in related crafts is highly desirable.
  • Education: Equivalent to high school completion.
  • License/Certification: ICC Building Certification is required; Certification as a Combination Building Inspector is highly desirable.
  • Driver's License: Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.

Additional Requirements:

Qualified candidates will undergo a background check, including fingerprinting. Criminal convictions will be considered based on their nature and relevance. Candidates may be asked to respond as disaster service workers during emergencies.
