Position Responsibilities:
* Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
* Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
* Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal).
* Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
* Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
* Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
* Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
* Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.
* Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
* Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
* Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
* Attend annual department training sessions.
* Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in some states).
* Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
* High School Diploma or GED.
* 2-4 years of experience.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.17 - $25.17/hr.
