POSITION: Chief Operations Officer, YMCA of Greater Long Beach

Salary Range: $190,000 - $240,000 plus 12% paid retirement benefits after vesting period
Preferred criteria for Candidates:
Education & Certifications: Bachelor's degree in human services, business, marketing, organizational development, social services or equivalent; MBA or master's degree preferred. The YMCA Organizational Leader certificate is required within three years from the date of hire.
Experience & Background: Ten or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in the YMCA or equivalent not-for-profit or profit with multi-site management experience. Knowledge and experience in all aspects of branch operations, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, budgeting and budget adherence, quality program development and implementation. Proven ability working with diverse groups and individuals from a wide range of cultural, socioeconomic, and community backgrounds. Experience working with board and program volunteers. Knowledgeable in property management and sound financial practices. Ability to relate and communicate with top community leaders. Clear understanding of the mission and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The COO is responsible for all operational matters for the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. Serves as a member of the President & CEO's senior management team, providing strategic leadership in the association's operations to advance the Y's mission. Successfully executes the Association Strategic Plan. Ensures successful operation of the branches (including a year-round resident camp), membership growth, program development, staff supervision, and volunteer governance. Must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is classified as a YNAN category association, operating with a $45M budget and a workforce of 1,100 employees including 340 who are eligible for benefits. The YMCA of Greater Long Beach has three traditional YMCA branches offering membership throughout the service area, the Lakewood Family YMCA in Lakewood, CA is the largest facility, the entire facility was recently renovated with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a pool, and newly renovated gymnasium. The two centers in Long Beach, CA are the Los Altos Family YMCA in east Long Beach and the Fairfield Family YMCA in north Long Beach. In the Big Bear, CA area, the association has a full-service 232-acre and 404-bed resident camp. In the Bellflower community, the Los Cerritos YMCA branch offers day camp, aquatics, and after-school programming. The Early Childhood Education branch, funded by the State of California, operates 6 preschools throughout the Greater Long Beach area. In Downtown Long Beach, the Community Development branch runs the Youth Institute and Change Agent Productions. The Association manages transitional kindergarten and kindergarten support programs in 62 LBUSD elementary schools and oversees 19 after-school programs. With a twelve-city service area encompassing 825,000 people, the YMCA engaged 62,000 individuals in 2024, supported and led by 225 board members and 485 program volunteers across the association.

As of 2024, the population was 465,000. The Metropolitan Office is located 9 miles northeast of Downtown Long Beach, centrally located near the Long Beach Airport, the Airport Marriott, close to recreational ocean beaches and marinas. Long Beach is located about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and 105 miles north of San Diego. Long Beach borders Orange County on its southeast edge. There is an abundance of entertainment, recreation, sports events, cultural activities, and educational opportunities nearby.
