Position Details

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform clerical duties involved in the preparation and maintenance of District health records and reports; administer first aid to ill or injured students at a school site, and assist with health screening and testing.

Essential Functions - Typical Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare and maintain a variety of Health Services records and reports according to established guidelines and procedures, and compile statistical reports as required.

Administer first aid to ill or injured students. Contact District Nurse and/or parents as necessary. Perform CPR according to established guidelines and procedures.

Maintain health records and files; distribute health literature, forms and health information as directed.

Perform a variety of clerical duties including answering telephone, filing, checking and recording health/medical related information to district management system.

Assist District Nurse with vision, hearing, hearing, scoliosis or dental screening as required; assist students with a variety of health questions as appropriate and/or refer to District Nurse.

Assist in maintaining inventory and order first aid supplies; distribute first aid supplies to students in accordance with established procedures.

Screen all Health Records of enrolling and returning students.

Notify parents of required follow-up immunizations, testing and examination requirements.

Prepare a CSIR card and a Health insert record of each student enrolled and maintain a daily log of each student contact and services(s) rendered.

Check, complete, and compile all health records prior to student's transfer to middle and high schools.

Inform District Nurse of all referrals and follow-up results as needed.

Record on Health Insert all mandated screening results including heights, weights, vision, hearing, and hepatitis B, TDAP (Pertussis) and IEP findings.

Have medication consent forms signed by doctor, parent, and District Nurse; keep medications under lock and key.

Obtain height, weight, DOB for all students in assigned grade levels or programs; assist District Nurse with health screenings and testing.

Provide an appropriate and private work area, current class lists, and all necessary forms and equipment when assisting the nurse.

Be alert and follow-up on all special health problems of students within the school site.

Maintain close communication with site administrator, School Nurse and Health Services Office, especially concerning medical emergencies.

Obtain Principal's and School Nurse's approval before sending out documents. Alert Principal and School Nurse of all emergency situations that transpire related to a student's health/medical related condition.

Order and maintain an adequate supply of first aid supplies.

Administer first aid to students and staff as needed; comfort students who are ill until they leave the school site.

Perform specialized treatment/procedures (e.g., administer prescribe medication, nebulizer, catheterization, blood glucose monitoring, etc.) under the supervision or direction of the District Nurse.

Maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly Health Office.

Participate in continuing professional development opportunities provided for the classification.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school, and one year of clerical experience involving record-keeping and public contact in a medical office or medical support setting. Completion of a medical-related training or internship program will substitute for one year of clerical experience.

CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates issued by an authorized agency.

Must possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate.
